CASH handouts provided a timely boost for the New Year for a selection of Hucknall community groups during a bumper cheque presentation.
A total of 23 organisations from the town were invited to Ashfield District Council’s headquarters ahead of its final meeting of the year.
Grants were presented by the chairman of the council, Coun May Barsby (Lab), to the groups who made it to the ceremony.
Among the beneficiaries from Hucknall were the cash-strapped Hucknall Falcon Swimming Club, which received £200 to help balance the books after it ran at a loss during the financial year April 2010 to March 2011.
The money comes from a funding pot given to each area in Ashfield, based on the number of residents it has. Hucknall was given £5,739.
Decisions on who receives the cash is based on applications which are then reviewed by the town’s area consultative group — a committee of Ashfield District Council that is specific to Hucknall.
In total, groups took home £4,900. The rest remains for late applications and extra causes.
