THE number of children in Hucknall and Bulwell eating healthy school meals has climbed for the third year in a row — with more than 34,000 now having a school lunch every day.
Figures published by the School Food Trust show figures in Nottinghamshire are above the regional average with 41.6 per cent of primary school pupils and 31.2 per cent of secondary school pupils having a school meal.
Coun Andy Stewart (Con), lead member for personnel and performance at Notts County Council, said: “This is obviously fantastic news for parents and is testament to the high quality of school meals.
“I am equally delighted with the news that the local economy is also benefiting from our new approach of locally sourcing ingredients for school meals.
“School meals not only have a big impact on children’s health but it also helps them to concentrate and succeed in school.”
