SIXTY poignant messages have already been hung on a memorial Christmas tree set up by a funeral director’s in Hucknall.

For the last seven years, Co-operative Funeralcare, of Portland Road, has asked bereaved relatives and friends to decorate the tree with memories of loved ones.

Funeral arranger Bev Bullock sends out special cards inviting people to leave messages in honour of those who have passed away.

But the tree is also available to anyone who wants to drop in and leave their own thoughts about someone special by attaching notes to the branches.

Bev said: “The tree is always very popular and we always get a good response.

“It obviously strikes a note with residents at a time of the year that can be very difficult if you have lost someone close to you.

“We get people coming back in year after year to leave messages. I think it really helps.

“The tree is for the community and is open to those of all religious denominations.”

The tree will be at the branch until Friday January 6. Donations can also be left for the Basil Sykers Myeloma Foundation — a charity for those with multiple myeloma blood cancer.
