A CIDER firm based in Hucknall has struck gold in a landmark regional competition organised by the Nottingham branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

TORKARD CIDER is run by Ray and Gail Blockley, of Washdyke Lane, and all its tipples are made exclusively from apples grown in Hucknall.

Now the company’s 256 cider has won a gold certificate at the first-ever CAMRA East Midlands regional cider competition held within the grounds of Nottingham Castle.

Winners were chosen after a blind taste-test.

Ray said he was proud but very surprised to receive the gold award and paid tribute to the other competitors, who were “very well-respected cider makers from across the region”.
