Coates concert coming up

FANS of world-renowned, Hucknall-born composer Eric Coates are being urged not to leave it too late to book tickets for a concert in his honour.

The Hucknall-based Eric Coates Society is staging the event, entitled ‘Eric Coates And His Contemporaries’, at the Central Methodist Church, Baker Street, Hucknall on Saturday November 26.

It has been announced that the programme will include a hymn Coates wrote for the Hucknall Baptist Sunday School anniversary in 1947. ‘God’s Great Love Abiding’ was published but never recorded.

The concert, which celebrates the 125th anniversary of the birth of Coates. will star the Boots Orchestra.

Pieces will include ‘By The Sleepy Lagoon’, which is the theme tune of the long-running radio show ‘Desert Island Discs’.
