Trinity Methodist Church
Mr Andy Leam was speaker for Sunday week’s service. The church steward was Nancy Shipley, who also led Family Time. Maureen Shilling was door steward and also assisted Margaret Campbell with the collection. Mike Oliver and Sharon Lee both read. John Hickling and Mike Oliver manned the media desk. The organist was Fay Shackleton. Hazel Forrest and Margaret Campbell served coffee in aid of the Forget me Not dementia group. Maureen Shilling donated church flowers. Nancy Shipley manned the Traid Craft stall in aid of Fair Trade fortnight.
President Amy Butler welcomed members to Monday week’s Sew and Sew craft session, organised by herself and Madeleine Schnell. Betty Hobson, Barbara Holland and David Woolnough served refreshments. Dorothy Stone received birthday greetings.
Church of Christ
David Wilson led Sunday week’s morning service. Polite Mukange read from the Old Testament. The New Testament reader was Tom King. Denis Faulks served communion and also spoke. The evening president and discussion leader was Geoff Ellis.
St Wilfrid’s Church
The Rev Jan Dewhirst celebrated Holy Communion on Sunday week. The chalice was administered by Christina and Brian Vardy. Janet Baldwin read prayers. Lessons were read by Lesley Chapple and David Ball. Marilyn and David Ball were sidesmen. Lesley Chapple and Susan Smailes served morning coffee. St Wilfrid’s youth worker Lucy Harper led a Messy Church session in the afternoon.
Our Lady RC Church
Sunday week’s mass was conducted by Fr F. Higgins. Claudia McGibbon read from the scripture. Maranatha played the music. Members of the offertory procession were Mia Terry, Leia Pye, Megan McPherson, Isabella and Caroline Taylor, Caelin Riyadi, Eamon Wyatt, Charlie Nottingham and Delia McGibbon. Communion was served by Molly Beardsley, Mary Clare-Endy, Helen Bevan, Jim Turton and Dennis O’Neil. John Fejfer and Rex Clarke took the collection. Tom Greasley and Jerry Herrington served coffee in aid of St Vincent de Paul charities.
Forest Street Baptist
Art and Keep Fit classes met on Tuesday week. The Rev John Hale, of Sutton, led Sunday week’s morning service. The readers were Brenda Hundley and Meg Hale. Prayers were offered for Jordan Broadbent as he embarked on a career in the Royal Marines. Denis and Kath Gregory served morning coffee. In the evening, the Rev Ros Wilkes led Holy Communion. Servers were Jane Brierley and Denis Gregory. Music for the day was by Doreen Homer. Doris Hickton opened last Monday’s Ladies Fellowship with devotions. Jane Brierley spoke. The pianist was Doreen Homer. Refreshments were served by Pat Pride.
7Cs Christian F’ship
The groupheld its monthly Sunday Soak on Sunday week in which all members took part with readings and testimonies. David Holloway, Mark Roxburgh and David Thorpe led worship. Communion was delivered by Glenys and David Holloway who also spoke.
Led by Claire Sharma, assisted by Elaine Britnell, Ann Sharman and senior Guides, the group had a craft session and played inter patrol games on Monday week. Claire wwelcomed visiting Brownies Sophie Bennett and Sophie Turner from the 1st Kirkby Brownies pack.
Hill Methodist Church
The Lunch club met on Tuesday week. Wednesday week’s Mother and Toddler session was followed by the DIY group, which worked on the church in the evening. The Dance class rehearsed on Thursday week. Paul and Karen Grice hosted Friday week’s Fellowship group. There was a prayer meeting on Saturday week. David Pursglove was preacher for Sunday week’s morning service. Ian Fox and Joy Franks both read. The organist was Joyce Bradshaw. Rev Mick Dilley led evening communion. John Grice and Derek Cahill were readers. Betty Grice played the organ.
Sue Smith and Tracy Chapman gave Saturday week’s special demonstration of ‘Spirit Art’. Janet Julian led the meeting. Sunday week’s divine service was taken by Diane Martin, Tina Thompson and Sue Hardy. SNU minister Myra Hibbert gave Monday week’s demonstration of clairvoyance. Following the demonstration, Gary Price and Janet Julian delivered healing. The awareness class met on Tuesday week.
St Thomas’ Church
Holy Communion was taken in the Lady Chapel by the Rev Neil Popham. A study group met in the church hall before taking a shared lunch. A drop-in session for toddlers and carers took place in the afternoon. John Cook manned the parish office in the evening. The Rev Popham, assisted by reader Chris Manning, baptised Isabelle Grace Robinson. John Walker read the lesson, prayers were by John Cook. Stuart Bradshaw played the piano. John and Sandra Walker were stewards and served refreshment. An evening Holy Communion service was also held.
President John McEwen delivered greetings from the Mansfield Club and welcomed Rotn Philip Willy from the Beeston Club. President-elect Roger Pursey received birthday greetings. The meeting agreed a donation to the Ashfield Young Enterprise Scheme. Rotn Philip Hurt reported on the club project to refurbish public notice boards in Kirkby shopping precinct. This would be in co-operation with the local conservation society. He also outlined terms for introducing associate membership of the club. Various planned activities were then reviewed.
