Plumbing student PAUL SIMONS was awarded the Institute of Plumbing Cup, while GRANT DAFT (18) received the F.R.Gwynne Memorial Prize. The John A.Stephens Cup went to brickwork student ANTHONY ARCHER (18).

Paul (23), of Carlingford Road, said the Basford Hall ceremony was a terrific night. He added: “I have worked hard for the past four years to get where I am now and this just topped it off.”

The Hucknall plumber completed a four-year apprenticeship and now works for himself as a sub-contractor.

Kevin Gowdy, ncn’s director of construction, said:

“Our annual construction awards recognise and reward our students’ talent and efforts. The awardees have impressed us all with their determination and drive.”
