Cops with Queen to honour troops

POLICE officers from Nottinghamshire who stood alongside the Queen at the national Remembrance parade in London were put through their paces in Hucknall ahead of the prestigious event.

Pcs Richie Howcroft, Ian Blackstock and Paul Smith, along with Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) of the year Kelly Haining and PCSO Chris Jones laid a wreath on the steps of the cenotaph in Whitehall on Remembrance Sunday (November 13).

But as part of their preparations, they brushed up on their marching skills at the police training centre based at Hucknall police station on Watnall Road.

Under the watchful eye of Julia Hodson, Nottinghamhire police’s Chief Constable, ex-military officer Pc Smith led the training with command calls and shouting out handy tips.

He said: “It’s not rocket science, but considering it was such a sombre and important occasion, we wanted to make sure we got it right.”
