Masked raiders armed with crowbars and bricks smashed their way into Hucknall’s Ashgate store on Sunday night.
A group of offenders wearing balaclavas smashed the glass at the front of the store near the cash point tills and made their way in.
The Tesco Extra store was closed at the time of the robbery although several workers were inside stacking shelves. No one was injured.
Once inside they filled bags with large quantities of cigarettes and electrical items before making a getaway in a dark coloured vehicle.
“This is a shocking incident and although no-one was hurt, it has caused great fear and anxiety within the team of staff,” said Hucknall Insp Nick Butler.
“This kind of attack is totally unacceptable and my detectives will be working on the case around the clock until the offenders are locked up.”
The incident happened at 11.30pm and detectives are appealing to anyone who might have seen the vehicle leaving the store or who might have information about the men involved in the robbery to come forward.
Insp Butler added: “We need to know who is selling cheap tabacco and cigarettes in pubs or from the back of a van.
“We need the public’s help to call us with any information to break the case.
“We have a number of officers working in the area to keep people safe and reassure the community.”
