HAZELGROVE Care Home in Hucknall can claim to be the jewel in the crown after it staged a fun-filled kings and queens day.
Residents donned crowns and tiaras as they took on the role of royalty for the themed event at the home’s base on Farleys Lane.
The day tied in with a group-wide initiative run by Hazelgrove’s parent company, Milford Care, as part of a dementia week.
The aim was to have fun while taking on board the serious messages about dementia and conditions such as Parkinson’s Disease.
All 34 residents and eight members of staff wore their crowns, while a special tea was laid on, complete with cream cakes.
A fundraising raffle was held to boost the residents’ fund for days out and special events.
Some of the cash will go towards caring for the home’s latest recruits — a trio of chickens. The animals are known to help keep dementia sufferers calm.
The event also featured a talk given by a representative of Parkinson’s UK.
Wayne Pickering, an administrator at the care home, said: “Everyone had a royal time.
“They all entered into the spirit of things and loved getting dressed up in their sparkling crowns.”
