Bulwell homes were hit by discoloured water following repair work by Severn Trent.
The water supplier also received reports of the issue in Bestwood, Wollaton, Aspley, Bilborough and Strelley, on Tuesday and sent teams out to flush the mains clear and take samples.
A company spokeswoman said: “We suspect this discolouration was as a result of the work we did on Monday to move water around our network of pipes. This can cause disturbance of harmless sediments and deposits that accumulate over time at the bottom of our water pipes, which can make water discoloured.”
The firm says there is no risk to your health. It advises if you are still seeing discoloured water to run the first mains fed cold water tap in your house, normally at the kitchen sink, at a gentle rate for up to 20 minutes. If the water supply is not clear then turn off the tap for 20 minutes and then repeat the process until the water is clear.
Some homes off Hucknall Lane in Highbury Vale and Bulwell were left with no water supply after a water main burst on the road on Monday.
