A HUCKNALL GP dubbed ‘Dr Marathon’ has gone out on a high in his final race — by raising more than £1,000 for charity.
DR KEVIN D’MELLO (55), pictured, completed the gruelling Berlin Marathon in Germany in aid of the Framework homelessness charity.
It was his final race after completing several runs in aid of good causes down the years.
In tough conditions, he crossed the finishing line in a time of four hours and 47 minutes.
He admitted it was a slower time than he had hoped to achieve but he was concerned about conserving energy in sweltering temperatures.
At least he did manage to sprint across the line!
His fundraising aim is £2,000 and, as reported in the Dispatch, he plans to match whatever is raised up to his target.
Dr D’Mello is still accepting donations, so anyone who would like to offer support can call in at the Whyburn Medical Practice at the health centre on Curtis Street, Hucknall or log on at www.justgiving.com/drkevin.
The Berlin race brings the curtain down on a charity running career that has included the London Marathon and the Robin Hood Half-Marathon in Nottingham.
Dr D’Mello has raised thousands of pounds in a series of runs since 2002.
