A HUCKNALL and Bulwell Euro-MP has condemned moves by the European Union to create a blanket speed-limit below 20mph across all residential areas.
Conservative Emma McClarkin says the proposal is another example of the EU trying to dictate to Britain on issues that should be decided locally. Brussels wants roads in all built-up areas to be restricted to 30km per hour, which equates to 18.6mph.
However Miss McClarkin said: “Of course, speed limits as low as 20mph can be right in some specific areas, especially near schools. But these decisions need to be made case by case, not as a Europe-wide edict.”
