KERPOW! Staff at Hucknall’s Tesco Extra superstore landed a big blow for charity by dressing as superheroes and completing an exercise-bike marathon.
Workers at the flagship shop off Ashgate Road were transformed into Batman, Wonder Woman and Mr Incredible, among other comic-book characters.
They collected cash from shoppers on behalf of Cancer Research UK, which is Tesco’s nationwide charity of the year.
But the main bulk of the £600-plus fundraising came from the exercise-bike session. Staff took it in turns on two bikes to cycle for an aggregate total of more than five hours.
Store manager Jo Shanks completed three-and-a-hours herself. In all, 20 members of staff took part in the event.
It was the first fundraising initiative run by the store this year on behalf of Cancer Research. But more are in the pipeline.
One worker said: “We were all pleased by how things went. It is worth the effort because we are all touched by cancer at some point in our lives.”
