HUCKNALL’S former police inspector has pleaded guilty to five counts of sexual activity with a 13-year-old child.

Russell Dew (44) appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday (November 21) where he admitted the offences, which took place in Newark between February 11 and August 31 last year.

Dew was previously Hucknall’s police chief for almost two years.

He was arrested on suspicion of the offences on Saturday July 30.

He was latterly based at Mansfield but was suspended after being charged. Dew resigned from the Nottinghamshire force on Thursday August 18.

Sentencing will take place at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday December 19.

Dew has been told to expect a prison sentence and has been remanded in custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Di Heydon said: “The nature of these offences goes against everything the role of a police officer stands for. Safeguarding children is a priority for the force and yet Dew took opportunities outside work to target his victim and take advantage of her.

“We have been supporting the victim and her family through this difficult situation, and I am pleased that today’s plea spares the need for a prolonged trial.”
