Police cordoned off Hucknall’s High Street after pieces of masonry fell from the top of the Boots building.
Firefighters were called to the scene on High Street at just after 9.35am on Saturday by staff and an aerial ladder platform was used so crews could inspect the roof.
A fire service spokesman confirmed that bits of concrete had fallen onto the public pavement before the arrival of the fire service. He added: “The pavement was cordoned off so that it’s safe for the public.”
Store manager Chin Lim said: “Small pieces of brick fell down on Friday night and we were worried because we didn’t want anyone walking past to be hurt. A lot of people thought we were on fire.”
The store is now open as normal. A structural engineer assessed the crumbling masonry on Monday and scaffolding has been erected.
