The return of the Feed 1,000 Challenge at Bestwood Country Park has proved to be a success.
More than 1,100 Nottinghamshire residents enjoyed a free lunch at the park as well as an enjoyable afternoon of entertainment.
Nottinghamshire County Council and Veolia (Nottinghamshire’s waste contractors) invited residents to join together for a community lunch to show how 1,000 people could be fed on the average amount of food a family wastes in a year.
Kevin Parker, Regional Communications Manager for Veolia Environmental Services said: “We achieved exactly what we set out to do.
“We provided over 1,000 lunches using the amount of food a typical family throws away in a year and made sure that the community enjoyed a fun day on what was one of the hottest days of the year so far.”
