AN ICE-cream enthusiast from Annesley chocolate-chipped away but just failed in his bid to become a taste tester for the world-renowned brand Haagen-Dasz.

IAN RIPPIN beat off hundreds of rivals to make it into the final of a nationwide competition for the coveted role.

He and nine other hopefuls came together for a ‘taste-off’ in London.

The photographic technician was put through a series of challenges ranging from blindfolded taste tests to product creation.

Unfortunately, Ian lost out on a prize that included volunteering for a year as the Häagen-Dazs taste tester, complete with a chance to learn the art of ice-cream making with the firm’s team in France.

A woman from South Wales took the prize and will now also try her hand at creating new flavours.
