A Bulwell demolition firm has been fined £4,000 for breaching road safety rules.

Down to Earth Demolition Ltd, based at Moorbridge Works on Bestwood Road, admitted that the tachograph equipment on one of their vehicles was defective on April 17 at the M1 Trowell Services. Magistrates fined the firm £3,300 and ordered it to pay a victim surcharge of £120, costs of £360 and a courts charge of £150.

The firm also admitted allowing Karl Heinz Kugel to drive a relevant vehicle when more than five years had elapsed since he has obtained a certificate of professional competence. It was fined £700.

A tachograph records a vehicle’s speed and distance, so drivers can stay in line with regulations governing their working hours.
