THE FIRST-ever Celebrate Success evening has been held by Bulwell Academy to mark excellence shown by its dedicated pupils.

A raft of teaching and learning achievement awards were handed out to students who were nominated by staff for excelling in particular subjects.

Among the top prizes handed out was the Principal’s Special Recognition Award chosen by head Graham Roberts.

This went to ASHLEY WEBSTER (16). Mr Roberts said: “Ashley has given the academy 100% attendance and is a shining example of the philosophy that ‘there are many paths to success’.

“Ashley has worked hard to achieve good grades, has been a superb sportsman, and exceptional role model and an exemplary student.“

Other accolades included the Young Citizens Of The Year awards, which were won by MARCUS KIGGINS (17) and GABRIEL MCDONALD (17), who, among other things, led training programmes and holiday camps for young people.

GEMMA JACKSON (16) was chosen as Entrepreneur Of The Year by the academy’s director of business and enterprise, Alison Bingham.

The Trailblazer Of The Year prize went to SUZANNE BROMLEY (18), who was chosen by senior vice-principal Scott Burnside for her commitment to the school off Hucknall Lane and for teaching sheltered housing residents to use the Internet. A student from each year-group also received an award for distinction.
