Former Prime Minister Gordon Brown gave his support to Labour candidate Léonie Mathers’ bid to be Sherwood’s next MP at a recent meeting.

He praised the ideas in the Labour Party’s manifesto for the election, telling the crowd: “We can give people the hope and confidence that we can build a better country.” Ms Mathers said: “It’s a real privilege to have the backing of Gordon Brown. He helped achieve the National Minimum Wage, introduced Sure Start Centres, extended rights for workers and disabled people and brought NHS waiting times down to a record low.”
