CHARITIES, clubs and community groups are being offered free stalls on Hucknall Market.
The move by Ashfield District Council is not only aimed at giving local organisations a platform, but is also part of plans to breathe new life into the struggling Friday market and its counterpart bargain market on Thursday nights
A one-day slot is available and can be used for anything from craft demonstrations to promoting healthy eating or the activities of a particular club.
Coun John Wilmott (Lab), of Hucknall, who is deputy leader of Ashfield Council, is also part of a working group looking at ways to boost markets in Hucknall, Sutton and Kirkby.
He said: “We know that action is needed to bring more impetus to the markets.
“This is just one initiative but there will be plenty more coming forward in the coming months.
“The markets in Ashfield’s towns are part and parcel of our identity.
“We need to try our best to get the markets focused on what customers want and people should rest assured we will try our hardest.”
An action plan is being put together to boost the markets after a report suggested they have been hit hard by the surge in online shopping.
Any groups wanting to take advantage of the free-stall offer should get in touch with the council’s markets department on 01623 551385 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
