IT WAS a special weekend for Hucknall’s St John’s Church as it held its annual summer fair and welcomed friends old and new.

The Nottingham Road church offered visitors a variety of stalls from cakes to bric-a-brac, a tombola and plant sale that attracted people from across the area.

“It was a fabulous day and raised almost £600 towards the church carpet fund,” said the Rev David Ford.

There was also a selection of games and a bouncy castle to keep the younger visitors happy and plenty of refreshments prepared by the church helpers.

St John’s will be opening its doors this weekend too as part of the national Open Churches scheme.
