BUDDING young Nottinghamshire sports stars are being encouraged to follow in the footsteps of 14-year-old Hucknall tennis prodigy Freya Christie by taking advantage of funding from Notts County Council.
The council has £23,000 available in an annual Rising Stars budget.
Freya, of Beardall Street, has a junior world ranking and trains at the National Tennis Centre in London, which is also used by top British player Andy Murray. She is at under-18 level, which means she competes against considerably older players.
Her mum, Carol Bloomer, said a £400 grant from Rising Stars had been ‘very helpful’ with Freya’s travel and accommodation costs, including recent trips to Montenegro and Thailand.
For funding from Rising Stars, contact Chris Rolle, of the county council, at www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/grantsforindividuals by Thursday May 31.
