A SIZZLING summer barbecue and fundraiser will help to foot the bill for a new pond and decked area that is the pride of Hillside Primary School in Hucknall.

The new addition at the Roberts Lane campus is aimed at giving pupils a zest for wildlife and the great outdoors.

So it was fitting that the outdoor charity bash attracted up to 400 visitors and raised more than £1,000.

Attractions included the obligatory burgers and ‘bangers’, but also pony rides, bouncy castles and games including welly-wanging and hook-a-duck.

There were also an array of stalls manned by staff and parents and the school field, where the party was held, was decorated with colourful bunting.

Head teacher Dot Stenson said: “It was a fun evening. Although we raised a brilliant amount, more important was the number of families who came along to give their support.”
