Construction company Costain has been cleared to start work on two smart motorway projects which run through Mansfield and Ashfield.
The scheme awarded under the Highways Agency’s Major Projects Framework will run on adjacent sections of the M1 from J28–31 and J32–35a.
The M1 J23 to 31 deal is the last of the four schemes that were brought forward to test more speedy construction by the government two years ago.
The work follows on from the central reserve barrier replacement work which is already underway on these sections of the M1.
Work will commence immediately and complete in early 2017.
