MORTAR boards flying into the air is an iconic scene usually reserved for degree-level graduates.
But for four-year-olds at the Applegarth Day Nursery in Linby, they too get to enjoy a special graduation ceremony.
Twenty-nine youngsters at the Robey Close base donned fetching navy-blue gowns for the event to mark the end of their time at the nursery before joining full-time education.
The fifth-annual eent included each child coming up onto stage to be presented with a certificate.
Then a small testimonial was read about the individual youngsters.
Official photographs were also taken to capture the occasion.
The children who took part are from the ‘Scholars’ class, which is the oldest age-group at the nursery.
Lynsay Clarke, who is a teacher at Applegarth, said: “It was a lovely day and the children really get into the spirit of things.
“It is really nice for them and they all get a real sense of achievement.”
