Gritters ready for bleak winter

Have your say

WORRIED residents in Hucknall have been reassured that Notts County Council is prepared to deal with heavy snow and ice as part of a predicted tough winter.

The council has revealed that it has stockpiled more ice-melting salt than ever before as part of a contingency in case temperatures plummet as they did last winter.

It has 21,500 tonnes of salt tucked away — 12,000 more than official government recommendations. Gritting teams are also on standby 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
