Workers were spotted stripping out fixtures and fittings at a former Hucknall pub this week.
Neighbouring residents of the Flying Bedstead on Watnall Road witnessed the comings and goings this week amid confusion over future plans for the site.
Rumours in the town were rife earlier this year that the building had been bought by supermarket giant Tesco.
It was suggested that the pub would be converted to an Express store but this was denied by store bosses.
Workers this week made comments to neighbours that the building has been sold and is now earmarked for demolition and development.
But they did not know what it would be transformed into.
The pub has become an eyesore in recent months with the car park being used by fly-tippers which prompted the council to respond to residents’ complaints and clear the site.
Ashfield District Council said it, as yet, has not received any planning applications regarding the site.
