A registration office has opened at King’s Mill Hospital to assist people who have lost a loved one to register the death or still birth in just one visit.
Nottinghamshire County Council is teaming up with Sherwood Forest Hospitals Trust to open the first hospital-based registration office outside of the Nottingham City area.
It will be open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9am to 4.30pm and bookings to register a death or still birth will be made by the hospital’s bereavement centre.
Next of kin will be able to collect the medical certificate from the office and register the death at the same time without the need to make an additional appointment to visit a local register office.
The registrar can also offer the ‘Tell Us Once’ service which notifies other local and national authorities of a death to cancel passports, driving licence, blue badges and more.
Appointments will also be available for notices of marriage or civil partnership, individual citizenship ceremonies and change of name deeds to anyone else for whom the location is conveniently situated.
Coun Glynn Gilfoyle, chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council’s Community Safety Committee, said: “Losing a loved one is never easy, but this new service at King’s Mill Hospital will reduce the stress of collecting a hospital certificate and registering a death.”
