A merger of two GP surgeries in Skegby will enhance services for patients, say health chiefs.
Patients currently registered at Woodside Surgery in in Skegby are to be transferred to neighbouring Healdswood Surgery, just a few hundred yards away, to become Skegby Family Medical Centre serving 9,000 patients.
GP, Dr Richard Hook, of Healdswood Surgery said: “We are very pleased to be welcoming colleagues from our neighbouring Woodside and we look forward to working together to be able to sustain future health services for our communities. With the additional parking, extra rooms and pharmacy we can offer patients the same high quality service they are used to from a much improved environment.”
Dr Amanda Sullivan, Chief Officer for NHS Mansfield and Ashfield Clinical Commissioning Group added: “With the collective expertise of the workforce of both practices we feel sure that the merger will improve and strengthen primary care services for the people of Skegby and Stanton Hill.”
The new practice will operate from 8am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday with extended hours for GPs and a practice nurse on Mondays, however, discussions are also taking place with commissioners to offer extended hours for two days a week.
The centre will be operated by a team of General Practitioners, Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses and Health Care assistants with other support staff.
The GPs based at the new centre are Drs R Hook, P Dykes, A Liew, D Glover, P Temple, and S O’Callaghan.
Both the Healdswood 01623 440144 and Woodside 01623 440666 telephone numbers will be retained so patients can call either number to contact the surgery.
Patients are being told that their registration will automatically transfer to the new practice; which will still continue to deliver all the services currently provided at both sites.
Woodside Surgery has grown in recent years with little scope to enhance services from its Mansfield Road premises and parking problems. It will close its doors for the final time on November 30.
The newly merged practice will be operational from December 1.
