A FORMER pupil of Holgate Comprehensive School in Hucknall has found success on the stage after writing a play which has been performed at a Derby theatre this week.
Tom Morley, who completed his A-levels at the Hucknall school this summer, submitted his script to Ark Theatre.
Ark are supported by Uncontained Arts who are funded to direct and produce plays by new and upcoming authors and playwrights.
Tom’s script was selected for production and was shown at Derby’s Studio Theatre last Friday and Saturday (October 26 and 27) as part of the Two by Two event, together with another script.
“This is a fantastic achievement,” said a school spokesman. “Tom’s interest in drama, and the arts in general, continues, and that is down to the positive experiences he had here at Holgate.”
Tom gained A-levels in maths and history and a BTEC in drama at the Hillcrest Drive school, which is a specialist in the arts and drama.
He is also a member of the Lovelace and Felley players theatre groups in Hucknall and Underwood.
Tom’s performance in ‘Our Day Out’ at The John Godber Centre back in August received good reviews. One particular scene he was involved in was described as a ‘moving highlight’.
The budding playwright is now in his first year at the University of Nottingham studying maths and hopes to continue to succeed in his theatre interests.
