A POIGNANT solo singing performance by ‘Mary’ brought many parents to tears at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Primary School’s Christmas production in Hucknall.
The traditional Nativity tale, entitled ‘Once Upon A Christmas’, was given additional storytelling by the school’s deputy head and Year 3 teacher Sally Butkevicius, who wrote the script.
But it was the performance of the Key Stage 1 stars that made the tale come to life and impress the audience most.
“All the performances were sold out and it was received very well by all our guests,” said senior teaching assistant at the Leen Mills Lane school, Jennifer Shelton.
“But it was during the solo singing spot by Enya, who played Mary, that some parents were in tears.”
Jennifer added: “The youngsters had been practising for weeks and were quite nervous but they gave it everything and produced a great performance.”
Fr Frank Carvill was part of the audience at one of the shows, which were performed earlier this week to almost 300 visitors.
Money from the ticket sales will be put back into the school and spent after consideration by the school council.
