ADEDICATED Hucknall volunteer has received floral thanks in the form of a Dispatch Rose for her ‘wonderful friendship’ and selfless assistance of the elderly.

Caring Jackie Dymock (69) was nominated by neighbour Josephine Clifton for her continuous efforts at St John’s Day Centre, Hucknall, where she spends hours each week helping out with meals, playing games and generally brightening up the day for all at the centre.

In addition to her duties at St John’s, Jackie attends the Baptist Church, Watnall Road, Hucknall, with Josephine on a Monday, assisting with a charitable re-clothe mission to re-distributre donated garments across the community.

She also finds time to help with activites such as craft, games and bingo at Heydays day centre for pensioners, which meets in the community lounge at Herbert Buzzard Court, Hankin Street, Hucknall, as well as being a ‘truly wonderful’ friend and neighbour in times of need.

Josephine told Chad: “Jackie used to be a community care assistant for the county council and it’s easy to see why the people she visited loved her. Caring is her vocation, she loves looking after people and won’t take a day off from her volunteering.

“She’s a marvellous friend and neighbour, it’s so wonderful to have her just across the street. If anyone ever needs a hand, we know we can depend on Jackie.”

And when Josephine had a hip replacement operation six years ago, she did just that.

“Jackie was so good to me,” she said. “She helped me put my stockings on, get dressed, have a bath, get in bed, all those little things that become so difficult after a hip operation. I can’t thank her enough. She’s one in a million.”

Do you know an unsung community champion, like Jackie, whose hard work and tireless efforts deserve recognition?

Perhaps a friend, relative or work colleague whose caring nature deserves rewarding? Or a generous volunteer who willingly gives up their time for a worthy cause, brighten the lives of all who meet them?

Please let us know, we’d love to hear from you.

The idea is that nominations be made in secret, ensuring the chosen recipient will receive a nice surprise.
