Hundreds of children at an Ashfield primary school have helped to sweep in cash for charity in a number of rowing activities.

Morven Park Primary School, in Kirkby, played host the Endurance Limits rowing team, and the boat they will be racing across the pacific ocean this summer, as part of a fundraising day.

Youngsters paid to come to school in their PE kits and around 400 children were sponsored to row a combined 150km on machines in the school hall throughout the day on Friday, February 26.

Sam Geeson, PE teacher, said the event was “amazing”.

He said: “Everybody put so much effort in - the kids enjoyed it and so did all the staff.

“We already do a lot of rowing at school, so it was nice for it to go towards a good cause.”

So far, they have raised £450 for Matthew’s Friends and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

The school is aiming to have raised £1,000 by June, when the Endurance Limits team begin their race.
