A COVETED certificate of merit has been awarded to the JAFFA Children’s Group of Bulwell’s Ravensworth Road Methodist Church, which celebrates its tenth anniversary in April.

JAFFA (Joy And Friendship For All) is described as a ‘modern-day Sunday School’ whose main objective is to give young people an opportunity to express themselves through Christian beliefs in a welcoming environment.

The church has impacted the lives of many of its young people through its groups and organisations such as girl guides, brownies, the Boys’ Brigade and JAFFA, which is led by Gillian Slack.

Gillian, who lives in Bulwell, was one of the church’s representatives invited to a presentation in Eastbourne, arranged by the Church And Families Ministry.

The certificate recognises the outstanding efforts of those who go the extra mile to shape the lives of young people through youth groups.

“The JAFFA Group is small in number but those attending enjoy doing arts and crafts, cooking and activities such as quizzes, reading and role play,” said Gillian.

“We recognise that Sunday School may be a little bit old-fashioned but JAFFA is run in a similar way with a more modern outlook,” she added.
