IT’S not often you get the chance to punch a politician on the nose!
But these youngsters did (playfully, of course!) when they met Hucknall Conservative councillor Mick Murphy.
Mind you, they had no resason to because Coun Murphy, of Notts County Council, had come bearing a gift of £1,000 for the kids, who are members of Hucknall’s go-ahead St George Amateur Boxing Club.
The club was pleased as punch with the money, which comes from a £10,000 funding pot each county councillor is given to spend for the benefit of the community they serve.
Coun Murphy has been a long-time supporter of St George, which is based at the former Peveril Street Community Centre and has made giant strides in recent years.
He said: “The boxing club is a brilliant organisation. It is trying to get youngsters off the streets, keep them active and give them discipline.
“The club’s premises used to be very rundown and a lot of hard work and effort has gone into everything that has been achieved.
“It’s a positive thing for the community and I am delighted to hand over this money.”
