A Kirkby man was worried about his poorly grandad and mum when he drove while over the limit, a court heard.

Peter Brown was pulled over by police on Nottingham Road, at 4am, on July 14, after CCTV operators suspected he had been drinking.

A roadside test revealed he had 65 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, when the legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Brown told the court: “I am really sorry for drink driving. Everybody who I have told has said I’m stupid.”

He said he had been a “bit down” because his grandad and mother had been ill.

Brown, 25, of Rowan Road, admitted drink driving at Mansfield Magistrates Court, on Wednesday.

He was fined £350, and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £35 government surcharge. He was banned from driving for 16 months.
