Lessons in safety for schoolchildren

THE DANGERS of making hoax calls and the need to stay safe near open water were among the valuable lessons taught to Hucknall schoolchildren during a special series of events.

Youngsters from Annie Holgate Junior, Leen Mills Primary and National Primary Schools in the town have taken part in Ashfield Safety Zone.

The initiative has involved hundreds of ten and 11-year-olds visiting Ashfield fire station at Kirkby for a series of interactive activities and talks led by the emergency services.

Topics have also included the threat of robbery and how to prevent becoming a victim, road safety, tackling anti-social behaviour and first aid, taught by St John Ambulance.
