SCHOOL pupils in the Dispatch district are already ahead of government targets on litter-picking, thanks to their Schools Waste Action Club (SWAC).

Environment secretary Caroline Spelman has called for litter picking to be taught in schools but Notts County Council’s SWAC programme is already teaching children about the importance of reducing waste .

SWAC also encourages pupils to reduce, re-use and recycle waste at home and in school.
