HOME-made mortar boards were the order of the day when a group of five-year-olds at a school in Bulwell graduated to the next stage of their education.
Forty-five youngsters at St Mary’s Church Of England Primary on Ragdale Road stepped up from the foundation class to key stage one.
As part of a celebration of achievement, each child was called up on to the stage and presented with a scroll by head teacher Daniel Farthing.
Special songs at the event performed by the youngsters included ‘Okki-Tokki-Unga’ — a piece about an Eskimo — and ‘So Long, Farewell’ from ‘The Sound Of Music’.
Parents and carers were also invited to the service and were served with cream teas and ‘pretend’ pink champagne (a fizzy drink that had been coloured).
Children enjoyed biscuits they had made and decorated themselves.
A school spokeswoman said: “The event was extremely well attended. The children had a fantastic time, and the parents loved it.”
