£23 million services hub opens

BULWELL’S long-awaited ‘one-stop shop’ for community services is now open for business.

The £23 million Riverside Centre at the junction of Main Street and Coventry Road opened its doors on Monday morning.

It houses the new Bulwell library, doctors’ surgeries, Nottingham City Council, NHS and Nottingham City Homes services under one roof.

Coun Jon Collins (Lab), leader of the city Council, said: “Bulwell Riverside will be the city’s third and largest joint-service centre and will be the hub of the community offering a convenient single point of customer access to services including housing, welfare rights, youth and play facilities and GP practices.

“The library and community section takes pride of place in the heart of the building, providing a lively shop front alongside a café with terrace view across the River Leen and Bulwell Bogs park.

“The new play centre with a natural creative play garden and youth centre with sports hall, recording studio and training kitchen, are intended to promote the health and well being of Bulwell’s young people and families.

“It will bring many benefits to the local community including a range of linked services in an easily accessible, attractive, state-of-the-art building.”

Lyn Bacon, chief executive of Nottingham CityCare Partnership, which will deliver community health services at Bulwell Riverside, added: “This is great news for Bulwell. Working together in the heart of the community, local services will be able to support improvements in health and wellbeing by jointly offering the best holistic care for local people.”

Building work started in 2009 and was completed in November 2011. The project was developed and delivered by Greater Nottingham LIFT Company Limited, who will also maintain the building over the next 25 years of use.
