£60,000 park improvements are welcomed

A recreation ground in Hucknall is set to be transformed in a £60,000 project to improve facilities for youngsters in the area.

Nottinghamshire County Council and Ashfield District Council are jointly funding improvements to land off Nabbs Lane in a scheme that could be completed by May.

Plans for the site include revamped football pitches, a multi-use games area and car parking.

District councillor John Wilmott, who represents the West Ward of Hucknall, said: “This is a large project in a deprived area and it can only be good for everybody. It’s a first-class community project that will help to alleviate problems.”

The county council is contributing £35,000 towards the scheme, while the district council is funding the remainder.

Sally Wyatt chairs the Reach Out Residents group, which has been discussing the project in its regular meetings. She said: “This will make a big difference to the area as the children currently have nowhere to meet.

“The plans have been fully discussed at our meetings and residents have been able to comment on the proposals.

“It really is good news for the West Ward of Hucknall.”

The contract to carry out the works is currently in the tender stage, and preliminary work to prepare the site could start within the next few weeks.

Members of the Reach Out Residents group will be discussing the developments, and other issues, at its next meeting, which takes place at 6.30pm on Tuesday, March 19 at the Hillcrest Centre, Holgate School, Hillcrest Drive, Hucknall.
