Apartment plans on agenda
A CONTROVERSIAL plan for a three-storey apartment block on the site of a derelict shop in Hucknall town centre has been renewed.
A previous application for this development at the former Lamp Cabin premises on South Street had nearly overrun its permitted time.
But it has now been submitted again, said Coun John Wilmott (Lab), deputy leader of Ashfield District Council, at a meeting of Hucknall Tourism and Regeneration Group (HTRG).
The proposal originally sparked mixed views, with some people concerned about the height of the proposed complex.
Others thought the former shop should continue to have a retail use and HTRG expressed a wish for a mini-supermarket there and at the nearby former Dispatch Office on Yorke Street.
The premises, which have become an eyesore since the Lamp Cabin closed about six years ago, would be demolished.
Lamp Cabin, now TLC Electrical Distributors, was founded in 1979. The company opened a shop in Mansfield in 1992 and then, in 2007, the Hucknall branch moved to larger premises on Common Lane in Watnall.
