Around the world musical concert for Hucknall and Linby Mining Community Brass

Hucknall and Linby Mining Community Brass went on a musical journey on Saturday with a themed concert of ‘Music from Around the World’.

Delighting an appreciative audience at St Peter’s/St Paul’s Church, Hucknall, a rousing rendition of the Florentine March was followed by solos from Emma Walton (principle cornet) playing Nessun Dorma from Puccini’s Turandot (Italy) and Jon Clare (principle euphonium) playing The Rev Archie Beaton (Scotland). The band then embarked on a Swinging Safari (Kenya) before Breezing Down Broadway (USA) and The 49th Parallel (USA/Canada). A jazzy trombone rendition of The Old Rugged Cross had a distinct air of New Orleans and the first half was concluded with rapturous applause for a test piece called Hollywood which the band will play in the Midlands Regional Finals in Bedworth on 9th March.

A brief stop in Wales with beautiful hymn Blaenwern was followed by a visit to Angola with hit tune Zambezi. A trip to a Persian Market and the hectic Kasbah was balanced by the peaceful Mongolian Folk Tune before returning to England for Edward Elgar’s Land of Hope and Glory, which capped off a wonderful world tour in just one concert for the band.
