Band proud of glory bid in international contest

THE DREAM progress through the rounds of an international talent search for a band with their roots in Hucknall has come to an end.

The group Anticure made it into the Midlands final of the Surface Festival — on the back of their considerable talent and support from the Dispatch district.

After making it through several rounds, the band were knocked out as the cream of regional musicians did battle at the O2 Academy in Birmingham.

But Anticure are remaining upbeat and say this will be the springboard for bigger and better things in the future.

Guitarit Dave Russhard (26), of Bridge Court, Hucknall, said: “We gave it our best on the day, but unfortunately it wasn’t quite enough to get through.

“Although that’s as far as we got this year, we are absolutely thrilled to have got so far and to have played on a stage where so many of our heroes have played in the past.”

As well as Dave, Anticure are made up of drummer Daniel Mooken (25), of Coronation Road, Bestwood Village; bass guitarist Marc Davies (25), formerly of Hucknall and now living in St Ann’s; and lead vocalist Dana Dempster (17), of Calverton.

The group have been going since 2004 with original members Dave, Daniel and Marc all going to Holgate Comprehensive School in Hucknall.

Surface represented a big chance to step into the international limelight.

For the top prize includes — after a national final at the 02 Arena in London — a chance to perform in Europe and further afield with the backing of a record label.

In total, the top prize in the event is worth £100,000.

Dave added: “We’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way and we really hope to see you out on the road locally soon. We hope that we’ve given our fans some good nights out – we certainly have some brilliant memories!

“We are hoping that we can use this as a springboard for the future and keep the momentum going.”

Next on the horizon for Anticure is a self-titled EP that will be available for download or buy from their Reverb Nation side (www.reverbnation.com/anticure) in the next couple of weeks

Dave concluded: “Once again, thankyou for your backing. We’ve been blown away by the support we’ve received and hope that we did you proud!”
