Bulwell’s Leen project starts on Saturday
IT IS hoped Bulwell’s River Leen will be inundated at the weekend with environmental well wishers cleaning up the area.
Following a successful meeting earlier this month where representatives from various groups and agencies got together to discuss future plans for the site, a date was set for this Saturday’s initial clean-up.
“We attracted 19 attendees and were incredibly enthused by the interest and ideas that flowed,” said Wildlife in the City project officer, Lucy Kennedy.
“Presentations were made at the meeting by myself, Gary Cragg (Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust) and Angela Mayson (Environment Agency).”
The group has received funding from the Environment Agency to survey the river and tackle the issues including litter and species invasion.
“The aim of the project is to get things started and then hope work will continue in the community once the scheme is established,” added Lucy. “There is already a lot happening and lots of enthusiasm being shown so hopefully this will continue.”
The group are hoping to survey the area and need help from the commuinity in doing this. Visit their website to log your wildlife sighting at www.wildlifeinthecity.org/sightings/love-your-leen/ .
The clean-up event runs tomorrow, Saturday February 23 from 10-1pm. The aim is to clear out the Leen and the pond at Vernon Park in anticipation of removing the fence by the pond and installing a viewing platform.
If you want to help, just turn up on the day wearing suitable clothing.
