Bulwell’s Take 5 Theatre School of Dancing to move into former Bulwell Library
A BREATH of fresh air, colour and life is to flush through the former Bulwell library as dusty fixtures and books make way for the excitement of dance and song.
The mystery buyer of the Highbury Road premises has been revealsed as the town’s popular Take 5 Theatre School of Dancing, who plan a revitalising £20,000 transformation for the benefit of both the school and the community.
Plans will see the building - which has stood empty for more than a year and become the target of thieves and vandals - transformed into two spacious dance studios, with plush new facilities including: baby changing, disabled toilets and a large waiting area, plus high-tech induction loop technology to enable those with hearing impairments to attend and enjoy shows.
The ground level location will also see ease of access for pushchairs, wheelchairs and the elderly.
Headteacher Amanda Hart, who has run Take 5 for the past 15 years, said: “Bulwell library is very lovely. It is our aim to create an environment that complements this iconic building and ensures the longevity of its use as a beautiful space for the community to enjoy, thus preventing the loss of another ageing building.”
“With the purchase of the library, we have very limited funds and are planning various fundraising activites to enable us to speed up the renovation.”
No strangers to ambitious restoration projects, Take 5 currently hold classes at the Old Town Hall, Station Road, Bulwell, in the former Embassy Ballroom which they dedicatedly renovated to form a suitable home.
But with pupil numbers now approaching 200, there is a desperate need for more space.
Amanda added: “Our school has progressed immensely at the Town Hall, but our continued expansion means we’ve simply outgrown it. We need accommodation for almost 200 pupils, additional dance areas and easier access, and our new building has it all.”
At the moment, the interior still has a library layout, which needs to be transformed significantly to suit Take 5’s needs. It is hoped that enough money will be generated through table top sales, sponsored walks, public displays and impromptu singing to enable work to begin in the next few weeks, with Amanda hoping to move pupils into their new home by late March.
Restoration work is to be completed in stages, money permitting, with the full project expected to cost around £20,000.
Take 5 Theatre School Of Dancing has many years of experience in the dance and theatre sector and provides classes for all ages and abilities, from 3 years to adult.
Classes include ballet, tap, modern jazz, acro, hip hop, cheerleading, line dancing, singing, salsa, Argentine Tango and Latin Beat (Salsa/Zumba inspired workout). Newcomers are always welcome.
Any donations or ideas for further fundraising would be gratefully received by Take 5. For more information, visit the Facebook page of Take 5 Theatre School of Dancing or email Amanda Hart at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 07746 854436.
