Bulwell school one of best in Nottingham
BULWELL can boast one of the best primary schools in the whole of Nottingham, in the shape of Our Lady Of Perpetual Succour Roman Catholic.
For the school once again led the way for the town in the latest exam 'league tables'.
What's more, it took the position of second-best in the city based on its results from Standard Assessment Tests (SATs) taken by 11-year-olds in English, maths and science.
Despite Our Lady's success, the picture for other Bulwell primaries wasn't so positive.
For seven out of the eight in the town fell below the national average score.
On a city front, the position was slightly improved with half of the schools bettering the Nottingham average.
But there is no denying that Our Lady, of Piccadilly, stands head and shoulders above the rest in Bulwell.
Its overall score of 290 was made up of a perfect 100% in science, 97% in English and 93% in maths.
It achieved a 44-point improvement on the previous year and was fully 47 points ahead of its nearest Bulwell contemporary – Hempshill Hall Primary, which scored 243 (87% in English, 83% in science and 74% in maths).
Pauline Lynch, head teacher at Our Lady, said: "The boys and girls have done very well and we are delighted by the results.
"We are consistently successful. This is testimony to the whole school community who work very hard for the good of each and every child.
"It is not just about when the children come to take the tests. It's about them from the start of their school career in the nursery.
"Governors, staff, parents and pupils, everyone plays such a great role in the life of the school. We have a very successful partnership and the results show that."
Overall in Bulwell, three schools improved on last year's results and five suffered a decline.
The biggest decline was suffered by the newly-formed Crabtree Farm Primary on Steadfold Close, which was previously Bonington Junior.
It scored 209 points – a fall of 37 points on last year. This is made up of 81% in science, 65% in maths and 63% in English.
The worst score in Bulwell was recorded by Cantrell Primary, although its 205 (71% in English, 61% in maths and 73% in science) was an improvement of 14 points on last year.
PRIMARY schools in the Dispatch district's villages are celebrating after all four scored above the national average in the latest education 'league tables'.
Leading the way is Hawthorne Primary in Bestwood Village, which scored an overall total of 260 points – a three-point improvement on last year.
Its total was made up of 90% in both science and maths and 80% in English.
Newstead Primary scored 254 overall, which marks a massive improvement on 2007 when it posted the worst results in the entire Dispatch district.
This time round, it secured a 25-point improvement with 92% in English, 85% in science and 77% in maths.
Only Annesley Primary suffered an overall drop, while Linby-cum-Papplewick Primary recorded a 15-point improvement.
All four found themselves in the Dispatch district top ten.
