Cab firm driving home message of National Condom Week

A HUCKNALL cab firm has renewed its drive to stamp out sexually-transmitted infections — by offering free condoms with every ride.

To coincide with National Condom Week (Tuesday May 18 to Monday May 24), A2B is relaunching its scheme to give away free contraceptives in the back of its vehicles.

During the last year, A2B, of Chapel Street, has dished out more than 25,000 condoms.

The company joined the scheme in time for last year's National Condom Week.

The condoms are provided by NHS Nottingham City and will be available to all passengers.

The scheme is aimed at reducing the stigma associated with condoms, reducing unwanted pregnancies and cutting down on the number of sexually-transmitted infections (STIs) in Nottinghamshire.

Ian Brough, A2B's business development manager, said: "We are delighted to be doing this again, it is a really good cause.

"Last year, it started out as a bit of a gimmick for us, but now we have seen the seriousness of the campaign, we are taking it very seriously.

"We join up with the NHS whenever they are doing a seminar and go along to several events.

"Our main target this time around is students, and we have linked up with a number of pubs in Nottingham.

"We want to help reduce STIs and unplanned pregnancies. We will also be attending several events throughout the summer.

"There is a distinct connection between people who have had a drink and one-night stands. They jump into a taxi and can pick up a free condom instead of going unprotected."

A2B will relauch the scheme on Bulwell Market on Tuesday May 18.
